BEIJING, May 12 (Reuters) - Chinese airlines will raise fuel surcharges for domestic flights from May 16, breaking with the usual practice of adjusting the fees on the 5th of each month, China's financial news outlet Yicai reported on Tuesday.
Fuel surcharges for flights of 800 km (500 miles) or less will rise by 30 yuan ($4.42) to 90 yuan, while those for longer routes will increase by 50 yuan to 170 yuan, Yicai said.
Major Chinese airlines had hiked the charges six-fold in April, as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran drove up jet fuel prices.
