- Basis bids for soybeans were mostly steady to stronger in the U.S. Midwest on Friday, improving at river elevators and a processing site, spot checks showed.

  • Attractive crush margins, topping $3 per bushel in some cases, have encouraged soybean processors to sweeten their bids to secure fresh supplies to crush.

  • The Chicago Board of Trade July board crush SMSIN26-BON26-SN26, one indication of soy processors' profit margins, was last up 3 cents at $3.29 per bushel of soybeans.

  • Basis bids for corn were mostly steady, with only a few mixed changes.

  • Farmers have been planting corn and soybeans at a faster-than-average pace, but cool temperatures and occasional showers may slow fieldwork in the eastern half of the Midwest over the next week, the Commodity Weather Group said in a daily note.

  • Most locations have rolled their basis bids to the CBOT July corn CN26, soybean SN26 and wheat WN26 futures contracts as the CBOT's May contracts approach their May 14 expiration.

  • On the CBOT, July corn CN26 was up 4-3/4 cents at $4.79-1/2 a bushel at mid-session on Friday and July soybeans SN26 were up 1-1/4 cents at $11.96-3/4 a bushel. GRA/
