GRAINS-Chicago corn falls, tracking losses in crude oil

ReutersMar 27, 2026 2:44 AM

- Chicago corn futures fell on Friday, tracking a pullback in crude oil prices as investors assessed the market impact of the Middle East conflict.

Wheat fell and soybeans stayed unchanged.

FUNDAMENTALS

The most-active corn contract on the Chicago Board of Trade Cv1 fell 0.1% to $4.66-1/2 a bushel as of 0320 GMT, but gained 0.2% so far this week.

CBOT wheat Wv1 lost 0.1% to $6.04-1/2 a bushel, but rose 1.5% so far this week. Soybeans Sv1 eased 0.1% to $11.73 a bushel. The oilseed has added 1% so far this week.

Crude oil fell on Friday, after U.S. President Donald Trump said talks with Iran were going "very well."

Trump said he will extend a pause on attacks against Iran's energy plants into April, but an Iranian official said Washington's proposal to end the war as "one-sided and unfair."

Soybean and corn track oil prices as they are widely used for biofuel feedstock.

Traders are watching for a possible announcement of revised U.S. biofuel targets at a White House event later in the day.

On Thursday, Trump said his administration would unveil measures to support U.S. farmers as the White House prepares to host hundreds of farmers, ranchers and executives for an event highlighting the agricultural sector.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Trump said U.S. farmers had been mistreated by some countries and pointed to the multibillion-dollar bailout they received to offset tariff-related losses.

MARKETS

Japan's Nikkei share average fell on Friday, and was on track for a fourth straight weekly decline, as fading hopes for an imminent ceasefire in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran dampened market optimism and pushed investors into risk-off mode. MKTS/GLOB
