PARIS, March 19 (Reuters) - The International Energy Agency chief, Fatih Birol, said on Thursday he had discussed international cooperation to stabilise global oil markets for the benefit of all countries with China's ambassador to France, Deng Li, at the agency's headquarters in Paris.
IEA countries have agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil to global markets, the largest in the organisation's history, in response to the spike in crude oil prices due to the war in Iran. The IEA could release more emergency stocks as and if needed, Birol said on Monday.
China is an association member of the IEA, giving it access to the agency's meetings, policy processes, and capacity-building activities, but stopping short of the full obligations of membership.
