European action on Middle East energy disruptions must be targeted and temporary, von der Leyen says

BRUSSELS, March 16 (Reuters) - Europe's response to disruption to oil and gas and spikes in energy prices in the Middle East must be temporary and targeted, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday.

"It is important that any short-term measures do not delay the decarbonisation of the energy system, do not increase the demand for oil and gas, are temporary and targeted, and minimise fiscal costs," von der Leyen wrote in a letter.
