ReutersFeb 24, 2026 11:12 AM

- A winter storm across parts of the U.S. Northeast has left more than 380,000 homes and businesses without power, as officials across the region warned of heavy snow, strong winds and dangerous travel conditions.

The hardest-hit utilities included Eversource Energy ES.N in Massachusetts, where 229,847 of its 3.3 million customers were without power, followed by National Grid NG.L, with more than 23,000 of its customers affected. The utility serves about 3.1 million customers across the U.S.

"Heavy snow, wind gusts over 70 mph, and near zero visibility continue to create hazardous conditions across Massachusetts ... Until the weather improves, our crews are limited in what they can safely accomplish," National Grid said in a post on X on Monday.

The total number of power outages in Massachusetts stands at 253,279.

The storm has made travel along the East Coast difficult. Airlines canceled thousands of flights, and officials urged people to stay off the roads.
