BERLIN, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Market participants, not the government, fill natural gas storage facilities in Germany, a spokesperson for the economy ministry said on Friday when asked about a potential strategic gas reserve for Europe's largest economy.
She added that her ministry is optimistic that the market has understood there must be a return to market-based filling of gas storage sites.
Earlier this month, Berlin said the country's gas supply remains secure this winter, and there is no need for state intervention in the market.
