CHICAGO, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Basis bids for hard red winter wheat were steady in the U.S. Plains on Tuesday as farmers shied away from selling ahead of rain showers expected over the weekend.
Farmer activity has slowed as producers seek to procure fertilizer and apply it ahead of weekend showers so the rain can activate the fertilizer.
The rains will deliver needed moisture to the winter wheat crop in the U.S. Plains and parts of the Midwest.
Snow in the Black Sea wheat belt is also protecting the crop from winterkill threats.
K.C. March HRW wheat futures KWH26 were last up 1-1/2 cents at $5.30-1/4 per bushel as of 10:30 a.m. CT (1630 GMT).
