Feb 9 (Reuters) - Major U.S. power company Constellation Energy CEG.O said on Monday its unit, Calpine, had signed a fresh 380-megawatt agreement with Dallas-based CyrusOne to connect and serve a new data center adjacent to the Freestone Energy Center in Texas.
Natural gas and geothermal company Calpine also entered into an exclusive agreement to provide power, grid connectivity and site infrastructure for Phase 2, which will be an additional 380 MW, Constellation said.
The company said the latest deals, which are in addition to the 400-MW agreements announced last year for the Thad Hill Energy Center in Texas, bring the total contracted power for CyrusOne data centers in Texas to over 1,100 MW.
Power consumption in the U.S. is expected to hit record highs in 2026, driven by a surge in demand from data centers needed to run artificial intelligence technologies, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Constellation last month completed its previously announced $16.4 billion acquisition of Calpine.
