PARIS, Jan 2 (Reuters) - European wheat started the year in negative territory in the wake of Chicago but volumes were thin with many operators absent for a long New Year break.
Benchmark March milling wheat BL2H6 on Paris-based Euronext, closed 0.4% lower at 189.00 euros ($221.73) a metric ton.
Chicago wheat Wv1 was down 0.2% by the same time.
Wheat futures have been pressured by global oversupply, shrugging off any support from escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war and lack of progress on peace talks.
