HOUSTON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - PBF Energy PBF.N extinguished a fire on Sunday morning in a coker unit at its 160,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Los Angeles-area refinery in Torrance, California, according to a notice filed with the California Office of Emergency Services.
The notice did not identify on which of two cokers the fire broke out at the refinery. The South Unit coker has a 25,000-bpd capacity and the North Unit coker has a 27,000-bpd capacity.
A PBF spokesperson did not reply on Monday to a request for comment about the fire and its possible effect on the refinery's operations.
Cokers convert gunky residual crude oil into either feedstocks for motor fuels or petroleum coke, which can be used as a substitute for coal.
