US Plains HRW Wheat-Protein premiums tick up, basis bids steady

ReutersOct 17, 2025 10:47 PM

- Basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were flat at elevators in the southern U.S. Plains on Friday while premiums improved for some grades of wheat as domestic flour millers sought supplies, grain dealers said.

  • Premiums for HRW wheat shipped by rail to or through Kansas City rose by 5 cents a bushel for "ordinary" wheat, wheat with 11.0% to 11.2% protein, and 11.6% to 11.8% protein. Premiums for lower-protein grades were unchanged. KCBT/SCA

  • Storms in the U.S. Plains this week replenished soil moisture as forecasts called for mostly dry conditions next week.

  • K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 futures settled up 2-3/4 cents on Friday at $4.91-1/2 per bushel. GRA/
