US Plains HRW Wheat-Basis holds steady; protein premiums firm

ReutersOct 8, 2025 8:29 PM

- Basis bids for hard red winter wheat held steady in the southern U.S. Plains on Wednesday while protein premiums firmed for a few grades, typically a reflection of demand from domestic flour millers.

  • Cash wheat sales remained slow as K.C. HRW wheat futures hovered near life-of-contract lows.

  • Producers have been busy harvesting corn, soybeans and sorghum while planting the 2026 winter wheat crop.

  • Protein premiums for railcar HRW wheat to and through Kansas City rose by 11 cents a bushel for wheat with 12.0% protein and by 4 cents for wheat with 12.2% through 12.8% protein. Premiums for other grades were unchanged. KCBT/SCA

  • K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 futures settled up 1-1/4 cents at $4.93-1/4 a bushel.
