CHICAGO, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures ended firm on Wednesday in a short-covering bounce after pressure from abundant global supplies had dragged prices to near-five-year lows, analysts said.
CBOT December soft red winter wheat WZ25 settled 1 cent higher at $5.07-3/4 per bushel. The contract touched a low of $5.03-3/4 a bushel during the session, just 3 cents above a low in August that was the lowest point for a most-active contract Wv1 since 2020.
K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 last traded a penny higher at $4.93 a bushel.
Minneapolis December spring wheat MWEZ25 rose 1-1/2 cents to finish at $5.55-1/2 a bushel.
Trading in grain markets has remained cautious this week due to a lack of updated U.S. Department of Agriculture crop data as the agency suspended the release of key reports due to a U.S. government shutdown. The agency had been scheduled to issue its monthly supply and demand report and weekly export sales data on Thursday.
