CBOT wheat ends weak on technical selling, winter crop planting progress

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures eased on Monday in a technical pullback after three sessions of gains and as U.S. winter crop planting accelerated.

  • CBOT December soft red winter wheat WZ25 settled 2-1/2 cents lower at $5.12-3/4 per bushel. The contract hit overhead technical resistance at its 20-day moving average.

  • K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 last traded down 1-3/4 cents at $4.95-1/4 a bushel.

  • Minneapolis December spring wheat MWEZ25 fell 3-1/4 cents to finish at $5.56-1/2 a bushel.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday said 505,096 metric tons of U.S. wheat was inspected for export in the week ended October 2, down from 873,578 tons a week earlier.

  • U.S. winter wheat planting was estimated to be 50% finished as of Sunday, according to an average of nine analysts polled by Reuters. The U.S. Department of Agriculture normally releases its weekly crop progress estimate on Monday afternoon, but the report will not be issued due to the government shutdown.

  • Saudi Arabia bought 455,000 metric tons of wheat in an international tender, the country's General Food Security Authority said. Traders said they expected the wheat to be mainly sourced from Russia and other Black Sea countries.
