US Cash Crude-Grades mixed on final day of volatile roll trade period

ReutersAug 25, 2025 8:58 PM

- U.S. crude grades pulled in different directions on Monday, the third and final day of a volatile roll trading period, dealers said.

Traders use the three-day roll period to adjust their crude slates, square up positions and net out exposures following the expiration of the U.S. crude futures contract.

The roll did not trade on Monday, dealers said, but was offered at a 50-cent premium to U.S. crude oil futures.

In refining, BP's BP.L 440,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Whiting, Indiana, is expected to be fully operational in the next 24 to 48 hours, industry monitor IIR said.

The refinery experienced operational upsets last week due to flooding caused by a severe thunderstorm that swept through the state.

Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate crude futures' (WTI) discount to Brent WTCLc1-LCOc1 narrowed on Monday, but remained around a $4 discount, the level that typically makes U.S. grades more attractive to foreign buyers and encourages transatlantic flows.

That spread last traded at minus $4, after hitting a high of minus $3.96 and a low of minus $4.07.
