CBOT Trends-Wheat up 1-4 cents, soy steady-down 2 cents, corn mixed

- The following are U.S. expectations for the resumption of grain and soy complex trading at the Chicago Board of Trade at 8:30 a.m. CDT (1330 GMT) on Wednesday.

WHEAT - Up 1 to 4 cents per bushel

  • Wheat futures Wv1 higher on short covering and bargain buying after all contracts posted fresh lifetime lows during overnight trading. Hefty global wheat supplies capping gains.

  • CBOT December soft red winter wheat WZ25 was last up 3-1/4 cents at $5.24-1/2 per bushel. K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 was last up 1-1/4 cents at $5.23 per bushel, and Minneapolis December wheat MWEZ25 was last up 1-1/2 cents at $5.89 a bushel.

CORN - Up 1 cent to down 1 cent per bushel

  • Corn futures Cv1 narrowly mixed, anchored by big supplies from a likely record-large U.S. harvest. Technical and bargain buying underpinning prices at times.

  • Crop scouts on the annual Pro Farmer Midwest crop tour has found strong yield prospects in four top producing states this week. The tour's corn yield estimate for Nebraska was the highest in four years while Indiana's estimate was the highest in at least 22 years.

  • Traders are awaiting further reports from day 3 of the tour, with scouts surveying fields in Illinois and western Iowa.

  • CBOT December corn CU25 was last down 3/4 cent at $4.02-1/2 per bushel.

SOYBEANS - Steady to down 2 cents per bushel

  • Soybean futures Sv1 weaker on strong yield prospects in the U.S. Midwest and on export demand concerns due to trade tensions with China.

  • Crop scouts on the annual Pro Farmer Midwest crop tour has found strong harvest prospects in four top-producing states this week. Soy pod counts in Nebraska were the highest in at least 22 years, while Indiana's pod count was above average.

  • Traders are awaiting further reports from day 3 of the tour, with scouts surveying fields in Illinois and western Iowa.

  • The American Soybean Association urged U.S. President Donald Trump in a Tuesday letter to reach a trade deal with China that secures significant soybean purchase agreements, warning of dire long-term economic outcomes if the country continues to shun the U.S. crop.
