CHICAGO, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Basis bids for soybeans shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals continued to slump on Friday, as a dearth of Chinese buyer demand for U.S. oilseeds weighed on the market, traders said.
Gulf basis bids for corn were steady to higher, after a spate of news about U.S. export sales.
CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in August were steady, bid at about 84 cents over Chicago Board of Trade September CU25 futures. September corn barges were bid at 95 cents over futures, up 1 cent.
FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in September were steady around 128 cents over September futures.
For soybeans, CIF Gulf barges loaded in August were down 9 cents, bid at 39 cents over CBOT November SX25 futures. September loadings were bid at 45 cents over November futures, down 6 cents.
Meanwhile, soybean CIF Gulf barges loaded in October traded at 55 cents over November futures, while last-half October loadings traded at 60 cents over November futures.
FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped from the Gulf in the first half of September were steady around 102 cents over November SX25 futures.
U.S. corn and soybean futures rose on Friday on short-covering ahead of the weekend and a closely followed crop tour set to begin surveying fields across the Midwest next week.
Barge companies are preparing for river levels to fall along parts of the Lower Mississippi River next week, which is expected to lead to some draft restrictions and slow river traffic, market sources said. BG/US
The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed private sales of 136,000 metric tons of U.S. corn to South Korea for the 2025/2026 marketing year on Thursday. USDA also confirmed private sales of 132,000 metric tons of U.S. corn to Spain for the 2025/2026 marketing year.
Some traders are paying attention to the path of Hurricane Erin, which became the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season on Friday and is expected to strengthen over the southwestern Atlantic through the weekend and into next week, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
