CBOT wheat sinks to contract lows on big global supply

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures fell to new contract lows on Thursday, weighed down by ample global supplies.

  • CBOT September soft red winter wheat WU25 hit a contract low of $5.00-3/4 a bushel and settled 3-3/4 cents lower at $5.03-1/2 a bushel. The contract reached the lowest level for a most-active contract Wv1 since August 2020.

  • K.C. September hard red winter wheat KWU25 last traded 1-1/2 cents lower at $5.05-1/4 a bushel.

  • Germany's 2025 wheat crop will likely jump 21.1% year-on-year to 22.42 million metric tons, with rain as harvesting started causing less damage than feared, the country's association of farm cooperatives, DRV, said on Thursday.

  • Net export sales of U.S. wheat totaled 722,846 metric tons in the week ended August 7, the USDA said on Thursday. The sales were near the high end of a range of trade estimates.
