Aug 7 (Reuters) - Century Aluminum CENX.O on Thursday announced plans to restart idled production at its Mt. Holly smelter in South Carolina.
The company said it will invest about $50 million in the effort, create over 100 new jobs and boost U.S. aluminum production by about 10%.
Century Aluminum, an integrated producer of bauxite, alumina and primary aluminum products, produces primary aluminum in the United States and operates facilities in Iceland, the Netherlands and Jamaica.
CEO Jesse Gary said the restart was made possible by President Donald Trump's commitment to onshoring manufacturing of critical metals.
Century added that the restart will enable the plant, currently operating at 75% capacity, to achieve full production by June 30, 2026.
