CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn, soybean basis bids remain mostly steady

CHICAGO, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn and soybeans shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals remained mostly steady, traders said on Wednesday as they waited to see how big autumn harvests will be.

• Traders were focused on the size of the upcoming corn and soy crops, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture slated to update its yield estimates on August 12.

• The USDA on Thursday is expected to report weekly 2025-26 export sales were 1.3 million to 2.5 million metric tons for U.S. corn and 200,000 to 500,000 metric tons for U.S. soybeans, analysts said.

• Barge freight remained high, a trader said.

• Traders also continued to watch for updates on U.S. President Donald Trump's trade dispute with China, the world's biggest soybean importer.

• Trump said he could announce further tariffs on China similar to the 25% duties announced earlier on India over its purchases of Russian oil.

• Chinese crushers sold nearly 2 million metric tons of soymeal to local feed mills on Tuesday, the biggest single-day sale of 2025, as attractive prices and concerns over Washington-Beijing trade tensions fuelled soybean supply fears, traders and analysts said.

• CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in July were bid at 83 cents over Chicago Board of Trade September CU25 futures, which was unchanged from Tuesday. August corn barge bids were also flat at 83 cents over September futures.

• FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in September were steady at about 118 cents over September futures.

• CIF Gulf soybean barge loaded in August were bid at 61 cents over CBOT November soybean futures SX25, which was steady from Tuesday.

• FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped from the Gulf in the first-half of September were about 95 cents over November futures. Loadings for last-half September were 93 cents over November futures.
