CHICAGO, July 29 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn were steady to weaker at ethanol plants and river terminals in a spot check of facilities in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday as corn and soy futures fell.
The corn basis fell at a river terminal in Davenport, Iowa, and an ethanol plant in Annawan, Illinois.
The soybean basis fell at river terminals in Savanna, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa, but rose at a river terminal in Seneca, Illinois.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture in a weekly report on Monday rated 73% of the nation's corn crop as being in good or excellent condition as of Sunday, compared with 74% a week earlier and in line with analysts' estimates in a Reuters poll. It was the highest rating for this time of the summer since 2016.
The USDA rated 70% of the U.S. soybean crop as being in good or excellent condition, up from 68% last week. Analysts expected 67%, which would have matched last year's rating.
The good-to-excellent rating in Illinois, the biggest U.S. soybean-producing state, jumped to 65% from 60% last week.
Forecasts for beneficial cooler weather in the Midwest weighed on futures on the Chicago Board of Trade. As of 12:20 p.m. CDT (1720 GMT), CBOT September corn futures CU25 were down 4-1/2 cents at $3.89-1/4 a bushel and new-crop December corn CZ25 was down 3 cents at $4.11 a bushel.
CBOT August soybeans SQ25 were down 9-1/2 cents at $9.79-1/4 a bushel and the new-crop November contract SX25 was down 4-3/4 cents at $10.06-3/4.
