June 24 - (The Insurer) - Tropical Storm Andrea is expected to form in the open Atlantic later today, bringing to an end a run of 219 days without a depression or named storm in the Atlantic Basin.
Currently a disturbance which has been designated as Invest 90L by the National Hurricane Center, the storm will not pose a threat to land.
According to meteorologist Michael Lowry, no depression or named storm will have formed as far east and north as Andrea since records began.
The storm arrives following the slowest start to an Atlantic hurricane season for more than a decade.
Lowry said the tropical Atlantic looks to stay dormant through the last week of June, with a generally inhospitable environment sticking around into the early days of July.
