CHICAGO, May 19 (Reuters) - Spot corn basis bids were mostly steady to higher at elevators and processing plants around the U.S. Midwest on Monday, supported by slow farmer sales as futures prices remain near recent five-month lows, grain dealers said.
Spot soybean basis bids were flat to lower at most Midwest processors and elevators.
Farmer sales of corn and soybeans have remained generally slow as cash prices hover near recent lows. Many growers are also focused on spring planting instead of on marketing grain.
Good planting weather last week accelerated seeding of both crops in the Midwest. Widespread rain is expected to stall field work this week, although the precipitation is likely to recharge soil moisture following a recent dry stretch.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is due to update weekly crop progress after the futures market close on Monday.
CBOT July corn futures CN25 were up 1-1/2 cents near midday at $4.44-3/4 per bushel, while July soybean futures SN25 fell 2-1/4 cents to $10.47-3/4 per bushel.
