US Cash Crude-Grades steady as traders digest news of US-China tariff truce

ReutersMay 12, 2025 9:05 PM

- Physically traded domestic crude grades were broadly steady on Monday, dealers said, as market participants weighed news of a tariff truce between the U.S. and China, the world's two largest economies.

The U.S. will cut extra tariffs it imposed on Chinese imports in April this year to 30% from 145% and Chinese duties on U.S. imports will fall to 10% from 125% for the next 90 days.

On the supply side, U.S. oil refiners are expected to have about 689,000 barrels per day (bpd) of capacity offline in the week ending May 16, increasing available refining capacity by 520,000 bpd, research company IIR Energy said on Monday.

Offline capacity is expected to fall to 227,000 bpd in the week ending May 23, IIR added.

Meanwhile, the trading arm of Mexico's state company Pemex, PMI, is anticipating a reduction in crude oil exports this year as more will be sent to local refineries, especially the new Olmeca refinery, a company director said on Monday.
