CBOT wheat firms with weaker dollar, weather risks

ReutersApr 8, 2025 8:21 PM

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures closed higher on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar was weaker and wet weather impacted some U.S. wheat-growing areas, according to analysts.

  • CBOT May soft red winter wheat WK25 settled up 3-1/2 cents at $5.40 per bushel.

  • K.C. May hard red winter wheat KWK25 ended up 2-1/4 cents at $5.61-1/2 per bushel, and Minneapolis May spring wheat MWEK25 climbed 7 cents to end at $6.01 a bushel.

  • The U.S. dollar weakened against major currencies including the yen and euro amid trade disputes sparked by President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs on imports into the U.S.

  • The United States said on Tuesday that 104% duties on imports from China will take effect shortly after midnight

  • That comes in response to tariffs by China on U.S. products last week. Beijing retaliated with those tariffs in response to 34% reciprocal duties announced by Trump.

  • Drying for flooded U.S. soft wheat areas is expected to be slow for the next two weeks, according to Commodity Weather Group.
