NORDIC POWER-Forward prices extend losses on warm weather forecasts

ReutersApr 2, 2025 12:01 PM

- Nordic forward prices extended losses for a third straight session on Wednesday, as forecasts of warm weather dimmed demand outlook in the hydropower-dependent region.

The Nordic front-quarter baseload power contract ENOFBLQc1 eased 0.7 euros or 4% to 16.8 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) as of 1124 GMT, lowest since January 21.

The Nordic front-year contract ENOFBLYc1 lost 0.35 euros to 35 euros per MWh, marking its lowest point since January 30.

Axel Weylar, originator at Entelios Trading AB, said there is more wind and weather is warmer than expected.

"Even though the weather is going to normalize, especially temperature wise, we have a very unusually hot week this week," he said.

Nordic water reserves available 15 days ahead PCAEC00 were seen at 10.38 terawatt hours (TWh) above normal, compared with 10.33 TWh on Tuesday.

"The rest of this week and most of next week will be dry and partially sunny in the west and south of Scandinavia. Temperatures will be near or above normal in the south and west," said LSEG meteorologist Georg Muller.

U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred global markets by announcing that he will introduce new tariffs later today, dubbing April 2 as "Liberation Day".

In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 fell 0.19 euros to 69.67 euros a tonne.

German year-ahead power TRDEBYc1 rose 0.4 euros to 87.6 euros per MWh.

The Nordic power price for next-day physical delivery FXSYSAL=NPX, or system price, edged 7.96 euros lower at 8.22 euros per MWh.
