MOSCOW, March 14 (Reuters) - Five Russian citizens were on board a container vessel, the Solong, that ploughed into a stationary U.S. fuel tanker off northeast England this week, Russian state agency TASS quoted the Russian embassy in London as saying on Friday.
The embassy confirmed that the 59-year-old captain, who has been arrested by British police on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, is Russian.
The Portuguese-flagged Solong crashed with no obvious explanation into the larger Stena Immaculate, a tanker carrying jet fuel for the U.S. military. One of the crew members is missing and presumed dead.
