US Cash Grains-Midwest ethanol plants increase corn basis bids

CHICAGO, March 12 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for U.S. corn rose at Midwestern ethanol plants on Wednesday, while soybean basis bids were flat to higher at processing facilities and grain elevators, spot checks showed.

Futures prices declined for both crops, discouraging selling by farmers already reluctant to make further sales ahead of spring plantings, dealers said. Processors have increased bids recently to entice farmers to book sales, they said.

Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 were down 11 cents at $4.59-1/4 per bushel by 11:40 p.m. CDT (1640 GMT), while May soybeans SK25 fell 12-3/4 cents to $9.98-1/2 a bushel.

Weekly U.S. ethanol output eased, while stocks of the biofuel increased, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
