CHICAGO, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans and corn were steady to mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday, as futures seesawed up and down, with market players awaiting a U.S. Department of Agriculture conference later this week, at which it will give early supply and demand projections for next season.
The spot soybean basis ticked down at an Ohio elevator and increased at three processors.
The corn basis eased at two processors and increased at an Illinois river terminal.
Some buyers are raising bids ahead of spring planting season, while others have already purchased enough to cover short-term needs.
Renewed investor concerns about U.S. tariffs, after President Donald Trump said proposed levies on imports from Mexico and Canada were on track to be implemented, weighed on grain markets and added to fears of reprisals against U.S. agricultural exports.
Improving South American weather and a bumper Brazilian soy harvest is hanging over corn and soy futures.
Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 were down 5 cents at $4.92 per bushel near midday on Tuesday. CBOT May soybeans SK25 were down 3/4 cent at $10.465-1/4 a bushel.
