US Cash Grains-Spot soybean basis bids mostly steady-firm, corn mixed

CHICAGO, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans were mostly steady at processing plants and river elevators around the U.S. Midwest on Thursday and steady to firm at interior elevators, while corn bids were mixed, dealers said.

The spot soybean basis bid jumped by 11 cents a bushel at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator. The corn bid at the elevator rose by 3 cents.

A corn processing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, dropped its spot basis bid by 3 cents a bushel a day after trimming the bid by 2 cents.

Farmer selling was limited on Thursday even as futures prices climbed. Many growers have already sold the majority of their old-crop supply as prices rose to a 16-month peak this week. New-crop corn sales have also accelerated as farmers have sought to lock in prices ahead of what is expected to be a large U.S. planted acres increase this spring.

CBOT March corn futures were up a penny near midday on Thursday at $4.99 a bushel. CBOT March soybeans SH25 were up 10-3/4 cents at $10.42-1/2 a bushel.
