CHICAGO, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans were mostly steady in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday with a few mixed changes while frigid temperatures gripped much of the region.
The spot corn basis firmed by 7 cents a bushel at a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, processing plant. But corn bids were mixed at terminal elevators, with the basis improving by 1 cent at Cincinnati, Ohio, and falling by 2 cents at Lincoln, Nebraska.
For soybeans, the basis declined by 5 cents at a Cedar Rapids crushing plant but strengthened by 1 cent at a Cincinnati elevator.
Farmers have rewarded rallies in Chicago Board of Trade soybean Sv1 and corn Cv1 futures in recent weeks by selling grain, and a higher trend in futures on Tuesday continued to keep farmers engaged.
CBOT March soybean futures were up 25 cents a bushel, or 2.4%, at $10.59 a bushel at mid-session, and March corn CH25 was up 5 cents, or 1%, at $4.89-1/4 a bushel after reaching $4.90-1/2, buoyed by worries about Argentine crop weather and relief that tariffs promised by U.S. President Donald Trump did not immediately materialize after Monday's inauguration.
