March 26 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened lower on Thursday, pressured by losses in the materials sector as gold and silver prices fell, with investors cautious amid mixed signals from the United States and Iran over the Middle East conflict.

At 09:31 a.m. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 1% at 32,104.76.
