Jan 15 (Reuters) - Canadian Solar CSIQ.O said on Thursday it has won a U.S. patent dispute against Maxeon MAXN.O over its solar cell technology.
U.S.-listed shares of Canadian Solar rose 5.2%, and those of Maxeon Solar Technologies fell 2.3%.
The U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board invalidated all claims asserted by Singapore-based Maxeon relating to alleged infringement of patents at issue in the federal court litigation, the company said.
In 2024, Maxeon had filed a patent infringement lawsuit related to Canadian's solar cell technology, TOPCon.
A Maxeon spokesperson told Reuters in a statement that it is evaluating the ruling and the option to appeal.
"We believe we have credible legal grounds to seek reversal of the decision, and of note is the fact that the USPTO's ruling upheld the validity of one of our TOPCon patent claims."
Maxeon, which designs and manufactures solar panels, added that it will continue to defend its intellectual property rights.
