STOXX NEAR RECORD WITH TRADERS IN HOLIDAY MODE
Unsurprisingly, trading was quiet in Europe on Wednesday, with many traders in holiday mode ahead of the Christmas break and bourses either shut or on a half-day schedule.
The pan-European STOXX 600 .STOXX index - powered this year by strength in banks, defence and industrials riding the AI boom - edged up 0.1%, staying close to the record peak hit on Tuesday, and bringing YTD gains to just above 16%
The FTSE 100 .FTSE in London eased by 0.1%, the CAC 40 .FCHI in Paris rose 0.2% and in Madrid the IBEX .IBEX was flat. Frankfurt and Milan were closed.
