STOXX STEADY, HELPED BY FINANCIALS
European shares got off to a muted start on Tuesday, holding near recent levels as investors braced for a likely rate cut by the Fed tomorrow to cap a strong year for global equity markets.
The region-wide STOXX 600 .STOXX was up almost 0.2%, supported by an extended bounce in defence .SXPARO from a multi-month low hit last week and strength in renewable energy plays following reports that a U.S. federal judge ruled Trump's ban on new wind projects illegal.
The heavyweight financial sector .SX7P, .SXIP lent support, providing the biggest uplift to the STOXX, partly offset by weakness across the mining sector .SXPP.
The commodity-heavy FTSE 100 .FTSE was slightly lower, down 0.1%.
