WALL STREET CLIMBS, WITH MEGACAP RESULTS THIS WEEK
The three major U.S. stock indexes are solidly higher early on Monday with investors gearing up for results this week from Alphabet GOOGL.O and Tesla TSLA.O.
They mark the first of the "Magnificent Seven" megacap tech and growth companies to report.
Last week was the unofficial start to U.S. second-quarter earnings, with reports out from most of the big banks, but investors are anxious to see results from big tech-related names because of their influence on the market.
Shares of Verizon VZ.N are up 3% after it increased its annual profit forecast.
Among other gainers, Block XYZ.N is up 8% in morning trading after S&P Dow Jones said late Friday the payments firm was being added to the benchmark S&P 500 .SPX effective Wednesday.
Also supportive for the market were comments from U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Sunday when he expressed confidence over striking a trade deal with the European Union.
