Shares of railroad operator Norfolk Southern NSC.N up 4% at $280.4 after the bell
Union Pacific UNP.N is exploring a deal to acquire rival NSC, the Wall Street Journal reports
Talks are at an early stage and there are no guarantees they will result in a deal or receive regulatory signoff, report says
NSC and UNP did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment
Up to last close, NSC shares up 15% YTD
