** U.S. President Donald Trump says he will impose a 50% tariff on copper imports, but did not say when the tariff would take effect

** COMEX copper HGc1 jumps over 10% to hit a record high above $12,330 a metric ton

** U.S.-listed shares of global mining giants Rio Tinto RIO.N rise ~2% and BHP Group BHP.N up marginally

** iShares Copper and Metals Mining ETF ICOP.O up 1.7%

** However, Canadian miners fall: Hudbay Minerals HBM.TO down marginally, Teck Resources TECKb.TO down 1.6% and Ero Copper ERO.TO down 2.4%
