The following factors could affect Italian markets on Tuesday.

(*) ECONOMY

U.S. President Donald Trump opened a new phase on Monday in the trade war he launched this year, telling partners, from powerhouse suppliers such as Japan and South Korea to minor players, that they face sharply higher tariffs from August 1.

The European Union still aims to reach a trade deal by Wednesday after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Trump had a "good exchange," a commission spokesperson said.

DEBT

Italy's Treasury said on Monday it would sell 7.5 billion euros in BOT bills at a July 10 auction.

Treasury to announce on Tuesday the sale of BTP bonds, with relative amounts to be auctioned on July 11.

COMPANIES

MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI, BANCA MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI

The board of Mediobanca will gather on Friday to discuss an unsolicited takeover offer by rival Monte dei Paschi di Siena and give formal advice to shareholders, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Monday.

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI

The Bulgarian unit of UniCredit has a 2.1 billion euro ($2.5 billion) transaction with PGGM, the asset manager of Dutch healthcare workers' pension fund PFZW, to shift risk on corporate loans.

BANCA POPOLARE DI SONDRIO BPSI.MI, BPER EMII.MI

(*) BPER Chief Executive Gianni Franco Papa told newspaper MF in an interview that he was confident the bank would go over a 50% take-up threshold in its ongoing takeover bid for smaller peer Popolare di Sondrio.

STELLANTIS

Vehicle production at the automaker's Italian plants declined 27% in the first half compared to the same period of last year, pointing to a further decline after a steep drop in 2024, the FIM Cisl union said on Monday.

ENI ENI.MI

Algerian state oil and gas company Sonatrach and Italy's Eni have signed a production sharing contract worth around $1.35 billion to explore and develop hydrocarbons in Algeria, Sonatrach said in a statement on Monday.

Colombian state oil firm Ecopetrol said on Monday it had purchased a wind power project in the northern province of La Guajira from Enel for $50 million.

The Italian defence group would like to buy Telecom Italia's cybersecurity unit Telsy, Il Fatto Quotidiano daily reported on Tuesday, adding that a spokesperson for Telecom Italia said the phone company has no intention of selling the business. Leonardo told Reuters "the report is groundless".

The Italian debt collector said on Tuesday it had completed the merger of its subsidiaries Donext and Master Gardant, and is expecting 5 million euros of synergies this year from the integration.
