INDIA STOCKS-Financials lift India's benchmark indexes, Mideast concerns cap gains

- India's equity benchmarks opened marginally higher on Friday, led by financials after the central bank eased project financing norms, while escalating tensions between Israel and Iran capped further gains.

The Nifty 50 .NSEI was up 0.17% at 24,836.15 and the BSE Sensex .BSESN rose 0.22% to 81,540.81 as of 9:23 a.m. IST.

Nine of the 13 major sectors advanced at the open, with heavyweight financials .NIFTYFIN gaining 0.4% and state-owned lenders .NIFTYPSU rising 1%.

Power financiers such as Power Finance PWFC.NS and REC RECM.NS jumped 4% each after the Reserve Bank of India eased project financing norms for lenders.

The broader small-caps .NIFSMCP100 fell 0.3% while the mid-caps .NIFMDCP100 traded flat.

Global sentiment remained subdued after reports that Israel had bombed Iranian nuclear sites, triggering retaliatory missile and drone strikes from Iran. MKTS/GLOB

The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump would decide within two weeks whether the U.S. would back Israel militarily.
