Australian shares to open flat; NZ up
April 16 (Reuters) - Australian shares are set to open flat on Wednesday as likely gains in miners on strong commodity prices could negate potential weakness in energy firms, with investors navigating the uncertainty of U.S. President Donald Trump's erratic tariff pronouncements.
The local share price index futures YAPcm1 was flat, a 20.3-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark rose marginally by 0.2% at the close of trade on Tuesday.
New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 rose 0.6% to 12,088.88 points in early trade.
