POLITICS

King Charles underlined the importance of strong ties between Italy and Britain at a time of war in Europe as he delivered a historic speech to the Italian Parliament on Wednesday.

The king also made a surprise visit to Pope Francis.

ECONOMY

Italy on Wednesday committed to keeping its budget deficit in check even as it slashed its economic growth forecasts amid market turmoil over U.S. trade tariffs.

Italy is seeking 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) from fintech group ION following a probe by prosecutors in the northern city of Bologna into alleged tax evasion over the 2013-2023 period, two people with knowledge of the matter said.

ISTAT releases February industrial output data (0800 GMT).

Treasury sells 7 billion euros 12-month BOT bills due April 14, 2026 and 1.5 billion euros 12-month BOT bills due June 13, 2025. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

The tyremaker is "close to a deal" with its leading Chinese shareholder Sinochem 600500.SS over a reform of its governance structure that would allow it to expand its activities in the U.S., executive vice chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera told Italian news agencies on Wednesday.

The drawbacks of Tuscan bank Monte dei Paschi's bid for Mediobanca are even more evident under the current worsening macroeconomic scenario, Mediobanca CEO Alberto Nagel, who opposes the bid, said on Wednesday.

BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

JPMorgan and BlackRock have both cut their stakes in the Italian bank, a Consob market regulator filing showed on Wednesday.

Banco BPM announced the final results of its takeover offer for Anima ANIM.MI, saying it had reached 89,949% of the asset manager's share capital.

STMICROELECTRONICS STMPA.PA, STMMI.MI

The supervisory board chairman of the Franco-Italian chipmaker said on Wednesday that French board members did not oppose a nomination for Italian Marcello Sala to be appointed to the company's supervisory board.

Nonetheless, Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said later that Rome opposes the CEO of the company.

(*) According to La Stampa daily, the contract to supply semiconductors for U.S. electric car giant Tesla TSLA.O at STM's Catania plant could be in jeopardy in light of the crisis in car sales and the US tariffs.

The energy group expects investors interested in a minority stake in its renewables and retail arm, Plenitude, to value the business at more than 10 billion euros including debt, one of the Italian energy group's executives said on Wednesday.

Italy's business lobby Confindustria announced on Wednesday a voluntary tender offer for the publishing company shares it did not yet hold, with the aim of delisting it.

The offer price is set at 1.10 euros per share, including dividends.
