China to stabilise real estate market, take steps to improve housing supply

ReutersMar 5, 2026 1:01 AM

- China will strive to stabilise the real estate market, take steps to improve housing supply and better utilise existing commodity housing stock, including by purchasing unsold homes for use as government-subsidised housing, it said in a copy of an official government report reviewed by Reuters on Thursday.

China will explore "various avenues" to tap the inventory of commodity housing, while moving in an orderly manner to encourage the construction of "quality homes" and accelerating renovation of dilapidated housing.

China will also improve the supply of government-subsidised housing, the report showed.

The report showed China will continue to leverage a "white list" mechanism for housing projects and will support "reasonable" financing needs of real estate companies.
