MOVES-Barclays names Neel Laungani as APAC chief of financial sponsors

HONG KONG, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Barclays BARC.L has appointed former Credit Suisse veteran Neel Laungani as head of financial sponsors for Asia-Pacific on Thursday, assigning him to oversee deal origination, execution, and strategic coverage of key regional clients.

The financial sponsors group at an investment bank works with private equity firms, hedge funds, and other investment managers, advising them through all stages of their deals, from buying to selling assets.

Based in Hong Kong, Laungani will report regionally to Avinash Thakur, head of investment banking at Asia Pacific, and functionally to Christian Oberle, global head of financial sponsors.

Laungani will be "instrumental" in growing Barclay's advisory and equity capital markets activities with sponsor clients - one of the bank's key priorities, Thakur said in the statement.

With 29 years in investment banking, Laungani most recently served as managing director and head of financial sponsors coverage for APAC, as well as vice-chairman of technology, media, and telecom coverage in the region at Credit Suisse.
