Fed nominee Miran: has not had talks with White House for longer-term Fed post

ReutersSep 4, 2025 5:00 PM

- Stephen Miran, President Donald Trump's pick to fill a short-term opening at the Federal Reserve Board, told reporters Thursday he has not talked with anyone at the White House about a possible nomination for a longer-term Fed post, after having told Senators it would take such a nomination for him to resign from, rather than just take a leave of absence from, his current job as White House economic advisor.

Asked by a Reuters reporter he first only raised his eyebrows and wouldn't answer. "You've not?" the reporter asked again. "No."

Democratic senators in Miran's nomination hearing expressed concern that by not resigning from the Council of Economic Advisors Miran would be vulnerable to pressure from Trump to do the president's bidding on his interest-rate votes. Miran said he would not.
