July 17 - (The Insurer) - Incarnation Specialty Underwriters has hired marine specialist Dennis Mathies as it works to secure capacity for a new MGA that will write hull and machinery business, marine insurance sector sources told Program Manager.
Mathies, known as Denny in the market, recently joined Steven Weiss-led Incarnation to spearhead the launch of the new MGA, the sources said.
Weiss, who serves as Incarnation's president and chief underwriting officer, was recently in London with Mathies seeking capacity support for the new U.S. marine hull and machinery business, the sources added.
Mathies’ career in the market stretches more than 50 years. He was most recently at CRC Group-owned marine MGU Continental Underwriters.
Prior to joining Continental in 2017, Mathies was at Starr Marine, while his career also includes stints at Reliance National and MOAC.
The addition of a hull and machinery book will complement Incarnation’s existing cargo and inland marine focus.
Incarnation currently offers various cargo and inland marine coverages including general cargo and stock throughput.
It also offers project cargo, delay in startup, motor truck cargo and auto physical damage coverage.
Former Munich Re Specialty Group and Roanoke Insurance Group executive Weiss launched Incarnation in 2023.
Prior to joining Munich Re in 2018, Weiss was at Aspen for two years, and before that, spent 11 years at Liberty International Underwriters.
Incarnation in May announced it had secured Lloyd’s coverholder status, giving it “expanded binder capabilities”.
Neither Incarnation nor Mathies could be reached for comment.
