
BERLIN, June 18 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed optimism on Wednesday that an agreement could be reached "in the coming days" in the tariff dispute between the United States and the European Union.
"I once again voiced my hope that step by step we come to a solution with the American government. I remain confident that this will happen in the coming days," Merz told reporters following a meeting with the heads of Germany's 16 states.
The European Commission, the EU's executive body, negotiates trade deals for the 27-nation bloc.
