12 EU members request activation of escape clause for defence spending, Commission says

BRUSSELS, April 30 (Reuters) - The European Commission said on Wednesday that 12 EU states have thus far requested the activation of the national escape clause to boost defence spending.

In a statement, the Commission said Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia have made requests thus far and that additional requests are expected at a later stage.
