- (The Insurer) - Regional risk pool African Risk Capacity has appointed Jean Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, former trade and industry minister of Rwanda, as its new director general.

Ngabitsinze is the secretary general of Rwanda's Social Democratic Party. After working as an agricultural economist at the University of Rwanda, he became minister of state for agriculture and animal resources in 2020. From 2022 to 2024 he was the country's trade and industry minister.

ARC said Ngabitsinze "brings a wealth of experience in governance, policy, and sustainable development".

As well as director general of ARC, Ngabitsinze has also become an assistant secretary general of the United Nations, according to a LinkedIn post from Rwanda's agriculture ministry.

The two roles had also been held in parallel by his predecessor Ibrahima Cheikh Diong, who was chosen to lead the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage in September 2024. ARC's chief operations officer Eva Grace Kavuma had been acting as interim director general since then.
